investment activity in the global trading sector reached $14.2 billion in the first half of 2025, up 31% from the same period last year, according to InvexHub's annual sector report. The data reveals significant shifts in where institutional capital is flowing and which business models are attracting the highest valuations. Technology-enabled trading platforms continue to command premium valuations, with the median EBITDA multiple for digital-first trading companies reaching 12.4x — nearly double the 6.8x multiple for traditional physical trading operations. Investors are clearly pricing in the competitive advantages of digital distribution, data-driven decision-making, and capital-light business models. Geographically, Southeast Asia has emerged as the most attractive investment destination, receiving 28% of all sector investment in the first half. The region's combination of fast-growing domestic markets, export-oriented manufacturing, and improving regulatory frameworks has attracted both strategic and financial investors. Private equity activity has been particularly strong in the trade finance segment, where several large deals have consolidated the market. The thesis is straightforward: traditional banks have retreated from trade finance following Basel III capital requirements, creating a structural gap that alternative lenders with sophisticated risk models are well-positioned to fill. For trading companies seeking capital, the current environment offers attractive conditions. Debt markets are functioning well for established operators, while equity investors are actively seeking quality businesses with demonstrated growth trajectories and defensible competitive positions.
